When I think of AVID and what it means to me, I think of how my own personal INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION has gotten me where I want to be and, to be honest, how my lack of INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION might have meant some missed opportunities. When I picture things that motivate me, I think of my love of international traveling, hence the picture above. People often ask me how I travel so much and I always tell them, it's first about dreaming and visualizing the place you want to go to, then it's about planning the trip and preparing for it, and finally it's about pushing "purchase" and actually stepping out of your comfort zone and onto an airplane. It's the same for every student I teach. AVID is about dreaming, visualizing, planning, and preparing for your future, and it's about taking that scary step out the door, knowing you've done everything you can to make the most of it.
